Relax, there’s nothing to worry about!
If you are nervous about your waxing visit, rest assured we have SEEN it all.
WE ARE NOT HERE TO JUDGE, WE ARE ONLY HERE TO WAX! We want your visit to be as comfortable as possible.
Any discomfort is brief, and totally worth the end result. Remember too, if you wax consistently (every 4-6 weeks) the hair growth is reduced, the hair texture becomes finer and softer with each waxing session, making the next appointment easier than the last.
PREPARATION FOR ALL BODY WAXING
If time allows please exfoliate lightly 24 hours before coming. This helps lift any potentially ingrown hairs and makes your waxing visit more efficient. We recommend using a loofah or similar type of product. Bath puffs are typically not abrasive enough.
Please DO NOT tan 24 hours BEFORE or AFTER your appointment. Doing so may potentially lift the top layer of skin causing minor discomfort.
Please make us aware if you are using any prescription or OTC topical products that may contain retinoids, retinols, Retin A or Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA’s).
Certain oral prescription medications may aggravate the skin when waxed, particularly those that cause sensitivity to light; examples include, Accutane, antibiotics, or blood thinners. Tamoxifen may also cause sensitivites with certain waxes. Please let us know if you are currently taking any such medications before we wax you.
Waxing a week before menstrual cycle or during pregnancy MAY make you more sensitive.
Taking ibuprofen 30-60 minutes prior to waxing services may help to reduce inflammation and discomfort.
You must be 18 years old or have a parent present at your appointment.
Ideally hair growth needs to be at least ¼ inch to have a waxing service; for most people, this is approximately 10-14 days of growth.
WAXING AFTER CARE
Do exfoliate all waxed areas 2-3 times per week. We do carry amazing products that are perfect for this.
Between appointments please use the recommended ingrown hair serum on all waxed areas daily for the first week; Spot treat as needed thereafter. This helps with ingrown hairs and lightens any areas where hyperpigmentation may have occurred.
We recommend using sunscreen on all exposed waxed areas.
Do not shave between appointments if at all possible.
After underarms are waxed, avoid using deodorant for 12 hours, if possible.
Please call us if you have ANY reactions that last longer than 24 hours.
Please call within 24-48 hours of appointment regarding any missed hairs. We will gladly take care of it, but it must be within 48 hours of visit.
We recommend that you do not elevate body temperature within 12 hours after a waxing service (i.e. work out, hot tubs, saunas, etc.). This may aggravate the potential for ingrown hairs.
You will be ready to wax again in 4 to 6 weeks. This does NOT mean you will be completely hair-free for 4 weeks. The time between visits allows your hair to reach the necessary length to achieve the desired result. The Naked Monkey cannot control how fast your hair grows. Hair growth is controlled by genetics and hormones, not The Monkey nor its staff.
If at all possible, you should wax 3 times (which is typically once a month for three months) before your event. This gives you the opportunity to see how your skin reacts to waxing and allows the staff to make any necessary product adjustments to insure you get the best wax possible.
Please know that the staff at The Naked Monkey does NOT DOUBLE DIP when performing waxing services. Even though many of our waxes claim to be antibacterial/antimicrobial (meaning nothing can grow in the wax) we don’t leave anything to chance. A new disposable spatula is used each and every time more wax is needed.
Waxing cannot be done if you are in the midst of an outbreak. We will not wax over “suspicious” looking skin reactions. This is for your protection as well as that of the Monkey staff. Please note that waxing may “trigger” an outbreak if you already have an STD.
